Current position in rankings. The university is listed among leading HEIs in the Design study field group – it was ranked second among HEIs of the Russian Federation in 2018 (Quality monitoring of admission to Russian higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science, National Research University Higher School of Economics).
Teaching staff. The highly qualified teaching staff includes professional designers, architects, artists, art experts, engineers. Many of them are currently involved in practical design and creative activities. They include holders of academic degrees, state honorary titles of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation and Honored Architect of the Russian Federation. Almost all teachers are members of all-Russian creative unions such as the Union of Designers, the Union of Architects, and the Union of Artists.
Research. The most current research areas include ecology and design innovations, accessibility and security, emotional and aesthetic influence of interior spaces on a person.
Strategic partners. The university maintains active creative and methodological cooperation with Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, Saint Petersburg State University and some other art HEIs of Saint Petersburg. It closely collaborates with the Union of Designers of Russia and its regional organizations, the Saint Petersburg Union of Designers of Russia. The representatives of these artistic associations are regularly invited as experts, reviewers, and members of the State Examination Board. The university constantly maintains creative contacts with the State Hermitage Museum, the Russian Museum, the Russian Museum of Ethnography as well as design galleries (in particular, the BULTHAUP gallery and the Saint Petersburg gallery), design studios and workshops.
International projects and programs. As part of international projects the university maintains contacts with the universities of various regions of Finland, the Faculty of Design of University of Primorska (Ljubljana, Slovenia).
Competitive advantages. The Institute of Design and Arts has been successfully implementing the program for ten years already. The Interior Design major maintains its timeliness and attractiveness for applicants. Combination of the two mutually agreed levels of training provides an opportunity for some graduates, who completed a Bachelor’s degree in Design, to start practical design and creative activities, and for others to pursue their Master's degree, deepening their practical knowledge and strengthening research training capacities.
