Current position in rankings. The university is ranked 11th among HEIs of Saint Petersburg and 50th among HEIs of the Russian Federation according to Forbes. The university was ranked 14th among technical HEIs of Russia according to quality monitoring of state-funded enrollment in Russian HEIs in 2018 and 42th according to the Ranking of Demand for Higher Education Institutions in the Russian Federation-2018.
Achievements and awards. This educational program was steadily recognized as the best as part of the project Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia in 2011-2018.
Teaching staff. Training is provided by two Doctors and eight Candidates of Sciences, two members of the Union of Artists, two members of the Union of Designers, and the leading specialists from the Mariinsky Theater, the State Russian Museum, and the Pushkin Museum. The university has the academic school “Development of Current Trends of Textile Production” listed on the register of the Committee for Science and Higher Education of Saint Petersburg.
Facilities and resources. The classes are conducted in modern lecture halls and laboratories. The samples of textile materials are made using multifunctional process equipment.
Research.The university publishes the journals Design. Materials. Technology and Technology of Light Industry included in the list of journals recommended by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles for publishing materials from theses. The university has the Academic and Research Innovation Complex “Textile, Color, Design.” The research area is costume theory (the Grant of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for the development of the research project “Appeal to Origins of Russian Culture through a Traditional National Costume” presented by the Union of Designers of Russia).
Education. Training is provided in the Artistic Design of Textiles major. The teachers use various teaching methods. Students go on tours, undertake museum and art internships and work placement.
Strategic partners. The institute cooperates with research and education centers such as Special Higher School of the Lower Rhine (Germany), De Montfort University (Great Britain), National School of Textile and Fashion (France), Institute of Textile (France). Graduates are successfully employed at Saint Petersburg firms such as Hosiery™, Master (Master Socks™), Manfredi, Evromoda, Special Service (Healthy Baby™), Lintex, Andover, Uyut, theater workshops of the Mariinsky Theater, and other specialized organizations.
Competitive advantages. Graduates can become leading specialists at manufacturing site and/or establish their own creative studios and design offices. They are eligible for admission to membership in creative unions.
