The Grant of the Federal Targeted Program " Research and Development in Priority Areas of Advancement of the Russian Scientific and Technological Complex for 2014-2020," R&D "Software and Hardware Suit for the Automated System of Optimization of the Mode Main Power Transmission Lines of the South for Reactive Supply and Voltage", etc.

Teaching staff. Training is provided by over 50 qualified teachers, including five professors.

Facilities and resources. Classes are conducted using advanced equipment in the field of diagnostics, relay protection and automatic equipment systems, using physical models of a real electric power network, that enables world-class research.

Research. The department conducts research in power engineering and energy saving. There is A.I. Ilchenko regional research and education center for efficiency improvement of energy production, transfer and consumption, which primarily aims to save energy resources, introduce energy-efficient technologies and equipment, energy conservation methods, improvement of electricity and heat measurement systems, personnel training in energy saving.

Education. Teachers use flipped classroom technologies while teaching major subjects. Students do their research as part of the EnergyNET National Technology Initiative, which defines the future of the power engineering industry. Research findings are tested as part of science and technology conferences, research paper contests.

Strategic partners. The branch of System Operator of the Unified Energy System Interregional Dispatching Office of the South, the branch of Rosseti Federal Network Company of the UES – Main Power Transmission Lines of the South, Rosseti Northern Caucasus, the State Unitary Enterprise of the Stavropol Territory "Stavelektroset," Concern Energomera.

International projects and programs. NCFU implements scientific and educational projects jointly with the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), Zhengzhou Institute of Engineering and Technology (China), etc. It cooperates with research and education centers of 39 countries.

Competitive advantages. The program is listed among the priority areas of Russian economic development. Particular emphasis is placed on information technologies applied as part of the concept of electric power engineering digital transformation.
