Chelyabinsk is a major European-type metropolitan city located at the geological boundary of Ural and Siberia, on the eastern slope of the Ural Mountains. The city was founded in 1736 as a Chelyabinsk fortress at the intersection of flourishing trade routes. In the Soviet period, Chelyabinsk became one of the country’s largest industrial centers. It boasts around 150 major enterprises of metallurgy, mechanical engineering and metalworking production, instrument engineering, chemical, light and food industries.

Gagarin Central Park of Culture and Leisure
The most beautiful park in the city is adjacent to a real pine forest in the center of Chelyabinsk. The central park holds the brightest cultural events of the city, including festivals, musical parties, sports events, various shows. Here you can take a walk, go for a bike ride and take amusement rides as well as play tennis and paintball.
Holy Trinity Church
The oldest church in Chelyabinsk was erected in the 1760s. The first church mentioned in the historical accounts was wooden. The construction of a modern red-brick building began in 1911. The church was built in neo-Russian style, and a shipboard-type layout creates an image of the ark of salvation.
Chelyabinsk meteorite
On February 15, 2013, a meteorite fell on the territory of the Chelyabinsk Region. While falling, it was destructed in a dense atmosphere and exploded with a power of 300-500 kilotons. The event did not go unnoticed all over the world and was covered in mass media and social media. The largest meteorite fragment called “Chelyabinsk” is displayed at the State Museum of the South Ural History.
