HEI’s image. Mechanical Engineering is the foundation of modern industry and nowadays it is hard to overestimate the value of a mechanical engineer. Graduates of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Automobile Transport of SamSTU take an active part in the development of the national industry.
Programme presentation. The Faculty and the Department “Technology of Mechanical Engineering” were among the first to implement a multi-level system of education, according to which graduates are awarded the qualification of Bachelor Engineer or Master Engineer.
Students master modern educational technologies related to computer-aided design and modelling. Within the virtual enterprise, established at the University, there are basic departments and learning centres of JSC “AvtoVAZ”, JSC “VOLGABURMASH”, LLC “Advers” and LLC “Delcam Samara”. The cooperation with the British company Delcam.Int. has allowed students to design highly complex profile products, such as car bodies for VAZ. The Training Engineering Centre of SamSTU – DMG Mori (Japan) “Intellectual Technological Systems in Mechanical Engineering” is the fifth training centre in the world after Japan, Germany, France and the United States and the first one in Russia. Material and technical facilities of SamSTU also include training and production centre “Mashinostroitel – Volgaburmash”, training centre “Stankostroitel”, research centre “Computer biomechanics” and others.
Thus, a powerful training and research innovative complex has been created, which has improved the quality of training and retraining of specialists in mechanical engineering and has allowed carrying out the orders of the enterprises of the Volga Federal District.
Competitiveness of students. Students annually take part in the contest of research papers and are awarded medals for the best research. They win various Olympiads, such as the All-Russian Student Olympiad for the users of CAD-CAM-CAE systems in engineering design and analysis, the international Olympiad “Modern computer technologies DELCAM in science, education and production”.
About 80% of the engineering and technical personnel at any mechanical engineering enterprise of the Samara region are graduates of the Faculty.
Interaction with employers. The Department is focused on innovative technologies of continuous automated engineering design, which is supported by the University administration. This area is in-demand both for students and enterprises, which use the up-to-date computer software “Kompas”, Ansys, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Unigrafics, Power Solution.
