Awards and achievements. This educational program has been ranked among the Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia in 2011-2020.
Teaching staff. The degree-granting department employs two Doctors and eight Candidates of Sciences, two members of the Union of Artists, two members of the Union of Designers. The leading specialists from the Mariinsky Theater, the State Russian Museum, and the Pushkin Museum are also engaged in the teaching process.
The institute has the academic school “Development of Current Trends of Textile Production” listed on the register of the Committee for Science and Higher Education of Saint Petersburg.
Facilities and resources. Classes are conducted in modern lecture halls and laboratories. The samples of textile materials are made using multifunctional process equipment.
Research. The university publishes journals such as Design. Materials. Technology and Technology of Light Industry included in the list of journals recommended by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles for publishing thesis materials. The university has the Academic and Research Innovation Center “Textile, Color, Design.”
The priority research area within the Costume and Textile Art program is costume theory. The department staff work within the Costume Theory research area (the Grant from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for the development of the research project “Appeal to Origins of Russian Culture through a Traditional National Costume” presented by the Union of Designers of Russia).
Education. The curriculum includes various active teaching methods, tours, museum and art internships, work placement.
Strategic partners. The university partners as part of the graduate employment projects are Hosiery™, Master Socks™, Manfredi, Evromoda, Special Service (Healthy Baby™), Lintex, Andover, Uyut, theater workshops of the Mariinsky Theater, and other specialized organizations.
International projects and programs. The institute cooperates with research and education centers such as Special Higher School of the Lower Rhine (Germany), De Montfort University (Great Britain), National School of Textile and Fashion in Roubaix (France), Lyon Textile and Chemical Institute (France).
Competitive advantages. Graduates can work as leading specialists in the industry and/or establish their creative studios and design offices. They are eligible for admission to membership in creative unions.
