Achievements. In 2018 the program successfully underwent international professional-public accreditation and proved compliance with the international quality standards of ENQA.
A high level of students’ competence was confirmed during independent evaluation of the quality of students’ knowledge carried out by the Informexpertise Independent Non-Profit Organization by order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the RF in 2019.
As part of the UMNIK and START grant competitions the projects in the field of biotechnology, advanced materials and medicine of the future are implemented.
Teaching staff. The program is implemented by 262 teachers including Professors, Corresponding Members of the RAS, Honored Workers of Higher Education, Honored Doctors of the RF and Science Workers of the RF. Over 30% have a degree of Doctor of Science. The top practicing specialists from Russia and teachers from the Netherlands, Denmark, and other countries are engaged in the teaching process.
Facilities and resources. The teachers widely apply practice-oriented educational technologies using high-technology phantom models for drilling manual skills, simulation training methods and for assessing effectiveness of future doctors’ communication skills.
Research. The Ural scientific schools of Professors A.T. Lidsky, B.P. Kushelevsky, D.G. Shefer, etc. are well-known in Russia and abroad. The university develops over 50 research areas with a high level of originality in research (regenerative medicine, cancer immunology, targeted therapy, vaccine therapy, social and medical prophylaxis and immunological monitoring of breast cancer, tick-born encephalitis treatment, etc.).
Competitive advantages. Students do practical training at federal research institutions, multidisciplinary medical and preventive treatment facilities supplied with laboratory, X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopic equipment, computer MRI scanners.
International projects and programs. The departments cooperate with the universities of Germany, Israel, the USA, Slovenia, Italy, etc. They implement joint research projects with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston), Johns Hopkins University (Maryland), Rockefeller University (New York), Harvard Medical School (Boston), Cambridge Institute for Biomedical Research (England), University of Copenhagen (Denmark), etc. Up to 15 people annually go to foreign clinics for undertaking work placement as part of the IFMSA program.
Assistance and support for foreign students and teachers. USMU annually accepts foreign students for study placements at the university departments.
