Programme presentation. Today the professional competency of a social worker is very important and plays a vital role in country’s social life

The spectre of professional activity includes state employment agencies, migration agencies, EMERCOM, enforcement agencies, healthcare institutions and psychological support services. Social workers are also in demand in the system of culture, education, social and educational aid, the sphere of pension provision, the system of social insurance, social security, social and legal patronage.

Excellent technological facilities and resources greatly contribute to the implementation of the Programme. The Faculty is equipped with specialized classrooms (“Social and Home Rehabilitation”, “Social Diagnostics and Prophylaxis”, “Social Rehabilitation”, “Labour Rehabilitation and Art-therapy”), an open testing site for classes in “Health and Fitness Technologies in the System of Social Security”.

Teaching staff. Training is conducted by the Department of Sociology and Social Work, which includes three Doctors of Sciences and four Candidates of Sciences (PhDs). The Department performs research work, which is targeted at developing theory and practice of social work on the following topics: “Complex Approach to Rehabilitation of Disabled People in Contemporary Russian Society”, “Regional Models of Developing Civil Initiatives in Helping Children in Need”, “Interaction of Educational Institutions and the System of Social Security in the Implementation of Health-Preserving Technologies in Work with the Under-Aged”.

Competitiveness of students. In 2013, the average passing grade for the Programme’s applicants was 229. Graduates, as a rule, are employed in Penza Regional Charity Non-Government Organization “Youth Social Agency”, the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Demography of the Penza Region, departments of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation, offices of social service of the regional and federal levels.

Interaction with employers. The Department cooperates with bodies and offices of social security: the Department of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation in Penza Region, Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation in Penza Region, Penza Employment Centre, Evgrafov Regional Psychiatric Hospital in Penza, Municipal Institution “Social Rehabilitation Centre “The House of Childhood” in Zarechny, the Centre of Social Aid for Families and Children of Oktyabrsky District of Penza.
