Awards and achievements. The Russian President and the Russian Government Scholarships, the grants from the Committee for Science and Higher Education of the Saint Petersburg Government, the All-Russian contest held by the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises (UMNIK), victories in the annual European contest for the best student research paper held by the International Society of Automation ISA.

Teaching staff. Over 70% of the teaching staff hold academic degrees and academic titles, 95% carry out research, teaching and guiding and practical activities relevant to the major being taught, 27% are heads or employees of specialized organizations.

Facilities and resources. Classrooms with multimedia equipment, computer classrooms with modern software, unique laboratories: a laboratory of open systems with Russian computers and servers Elbrus, a laboratory of digital reality and virtual environment programming, a laboratory of industrial microprocessor technologies.

Education. The department provides intensive training for specialists in data processing, telecommunications, network systems, multisensor systems. The Programming Olympiads preparation group is actively developing, and the participants of WorldSkills and FutureSkills are successfully trained.

Research and project activities. SUAI established the Science and Technology Area that helps students take their education beyond the general program. During their learning process, internships and research students use research and production facilities of top scientific organizations in Saint Petersburg such as the Research Institute of Leninets Holding Company, Vavilov State Optical Institute, St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, ELCUS Electronic Company, ASK Laboratory, and others, as well as research and technology opportunities of academic institutes in Moscow such as the Institute of Informatics Problems of the RAS, Institute of Precision Mechanics and Computer Engineering, Kvant Research Institute, Angstrem (Zelenograd) that have been collaborating with SUAI for many years.

Competitive advantages. Students get solid basic research background in fundamental disciplines of computer science , which is a basis for developing skills in various areas of specialization such as programming, databases, VR and AR technologies, digital electronics, artificial intelligence, digital signal and image processing, telecommunications.

Employers and employment. The institute cooperates with the leading enterprises specializing in data processing and software development. The university’s partners are SPIIRAS, Design Bureau Arsenal named after M.V. Frunze, the Orion special design office, Concern Granit-Electron, the ScanEx engineering and technology center, a number of foreign research institutes and universities. Graduates are employed by companies such as Covance, Jetbrains, Sberbank, Kotlin-Novator, All-Russian Research Institute of Radio Equipment, Radar mms research and production enterprise, Radioavionika, Kometa Corporation, KONTUR-NIIRS, Gamma Engineering, Girooptika, Concern Oceanpribor, ATOMPROEKT, Veeam Software, Avtomatika-Servis, Radiopribor Plant, Nornickel, and many others.
