Current position in rankings. The university is ranked 11th among HEIs of Saint Petersburg and 50th among HEIs of the Russian Federation according to Forbes. The university was ranked 14th among technical HEIs of Russia according to quality monitoring of state-funded enrollment in Russian HEIs in 2018 and 42th according to the Ranking of Demand for Higher Education Institutions in the Russian Federation-2018.

Teaching staff. Training is provided in the Technology and Design of Knitwear major. The educational process is implemented by the highly qualified teaching staff of the department including two Doctors of Sciences and six Candidates of Sciences. The leading specialists of the industry (heads and employees of enterprises such as Hosiery, Master, Satila, Lintex, Elcom) are also engaged in the educational process. The Institute of Textile and Fashion has the academic school “Development of Current Trends in Textile Production” listed on the register of the Committee for Science and Higher Education of Saint Petersburg.

Research. The promising research areas developed at the department include the following: processing of novel raw materials for knitwear technology, development of geotextile materials, design of knitwear parameters, special clothing development, etc.

Strategic partners. Graduates are successfully employed at Saint Petersburg firms such as Hosiery™, Master Socks™, Manfredi, Evromoda, Special Service (Healthy Baby™), Lintex, Andover, Satila, OGGI, etc.

International projects and programs. In 2004 the department established the Russian National Division of the International Federation of Knitting Technologists (IFKT) which held its 44th congress in Saint Petersburg in 2008. Since 2005 the university has been representing the Textile Institute International (the institute that unites specialists in the field of textile and footwear technology and design from 90 countries) in Russia and the CIS countries. It is a member of the Association of Universities for Textiles.

Competitive advantages. Graduates can be employed as leading specialists at manufacturing site and establish their own small enterprises. Bachelors can pursue a Master's degree at the university in Technologies and Design of Textile Products and then a postgraduate degree in the field of Technology of Light Industry with defense at the university's dissertation council in Technology and Primary Processing of Textiles and Raw Materials.
