Current position in rankings. The university is ranked 11th among HEIs of Saint Petersburg and 50th among HEIs of the Russian Federation according to Forbes. The university is listed among leading HEIs in the Printing and Packaging study field group–it was ranked third among Russian HEIs in 2017.
Teaching staff. The department employs eight Candidates of Sciences including seven Associate Professors. All the teachers of the department have extensive scientific, practical and teaching experience, actively publish their papers in scientific journals (WOS, the Russian Science Citation Index, the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles, etc.).
Facilities and resources. The department has six laboratories (for book-binding, book-stitching and finishing processes, printing processes, platemaking, printing materials, optical engineering, photometry, and chromatology) with state-of-the-art equipment.
Research. The department develops the following promising research areas: thermodynamic and mathematical modeling of multicomponent systems of different nature under a wide range of temperature and composition conditions; new cellulose-based composite materials; systematic approach to the analysis and quality management of printed products based on the reproduction process results.
Education. The teachers use innovative educational models and technologies which provide an opportunity for students to acquire state-of-the-art knowledge, abilities and professional skills: the innovative evaluation system "Portfolio," research methods in teaching, problem-based learning, case technologies, modular learning technology.
Strategic partners. The university cooperates with MM Poligrafoformlenie – Packaging LLC, Poligrafoformlenie – Flexo LLC, the Deviz printing plant, Amcor Tobacco Packaging (Veliky Novgorod), and other organizations. The department maintains friendly relations and science and technology cooperation with Belarusian National Technical University, Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N.Yeltsin, Tula State University, Omsk State Technical University, and other HEIs. The teachers and students participate in international conferences of different levels, in particular, in reviewing and editing publications, in holding scientific and practical seminars, in sharing experience, and many other areas.
