Awards and achievements of the educational program. The program was top ranked by the All-Russia Project Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia 2017.

The Bachelor's program in Electric Power Industry and Electrical Engineering  is also offered by the Department of Industrial Power Supply.

Teaching staff. The Electric Drives and Automation program is delivered by one of the leading university departments. The teaching staff comprise three Professors, two Doctors of Engineering Sciences, and eight Candidates of Sciences.

University partners within the educational program. South Ural State University, Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Ufa State Petroleum Technological University are among the committed university partners. In order to provide practical training to students the university cooperates with large-scale industrial enterprises including Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, the OSK electric engineering company, the Magnitogorsk Gipromez metallurgical works designing company, the NLMK-Ural metallurgic plant, the PhosAgro phosphate-based fertilizer producing company, the Chelyabinsk Pipe Mill, the Severstal—Cherepovets Steel Mill, the Severstal—Balakovo Long Product Mill. The department also cooperates with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Informatics of Jean Monnet University (France).

Students’ achievements. In 2011 and 2014 the students of the department took their practical training courses at MMK Metalurji in İskenderun (Turkey); in 2015 they took part in the REM international conference in Germany; in 2016 students participated in All-Russian Engineering Competition in Saint Petersburg and took the first and the third places; in 2017 students were among the participants of the professional skill competition and won in the category of Best Designer, they were also awarded a grant under the UMNIK contest.

Facilities and resources. The laboratories available for students have electric machines, electric drives, electric apparatuses, power converters, drive control systems, Siemens drives and microprocessors. The department houses the center for research and education “Shneider Electric—NMSTU.” Students are actively involved in sport, recreation, drama and performance activities. Students are welcome to use the facilities of the Yunost health and training center, the clinic, the drama and performance clubs. Non-resident students and applicants are accommodated in the university dormitory.

Opportunities for students. Students are frequent winners of academic olympiads and contests. Students with exceptional achievements in research are entitled for special scholarships awarded by the university and the President and the Government of the Russian Federation. In the framework of the Erasmus+ program funded by the European Commission students can compete for studying at a foreign university. In September 2017, a few NMSTU students began their semester studies at Jean Monnet University in France.

Employment prospects. Electrical engineer, maintenance person responsible for electronic equipment, specialist responsible for power supply systems and electric drives.
