Programme presentation. The key phrases which characterize Bachelors in the given field are “optimization”, “up-to-date information technologies”, “mathematization”, “mod-ern methods of identification”, “modelling in complex environments and objects”, “power stages”, “converter installations”, “robotic systems” and “methods of development of microprocessor-based automation systems”. The given area of training is relevant at the cur-rent stage of technology development in the Russian Federation, as extensive training in the field of power has proved very useful in combination with up-to-date information technologies for modernizing machine building and energy systems.

This is facilitated by a well-developed material base of the Chair: there is a three tier local computer network with a database and tools for design and development of up-to-date automated process control systems and SCADA-systems. Modern specialized laboratories are available. The laboratory of active-adaptive networks is a pilot area for student developments for international project OpenJEVis (Germany, Austria). All computers of the Chair are integrated in the university network; permanent Wi-Fi access is available. The classrooms are equipped with multimedia facilities. Only licensed soft-ware is used.

Teaching staff. The teaching staff consists of 6 professors (including 3 full professors, Doctors of Sciences) and 20 assistant professors (including 14 full assistant professors, Candidates of Sciences). The staff provides high quality training of specialists.

Competitiveness of students. The average passing grade for the area of training is the highest at the Electrical Engineering Faculty. During 5 years, students have participated in an exchange programme with the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany). There are effective student research projects with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, the Institute for Independent Studies Zurich and the University of Texas.

Interaction with employers. From the first year of training students are involved in research and practical activities and are placed for work experience at the major companies of the Perm Region (“Proton-PermskiyeMotory”, “Aviadvigatel”, Perm Pulp and Paper Company, LLC “Mashinostroitel”, etc.).
