Programme presentation. The field of professional activity of the students of the specialty, which was founded in MIIT 117 years ago, includes designing, constructing, operating, maintenance, servicing, reconstructing transport objects – bridges, railway and metro tunnels, high speed railways. Training is conducted in several profiles: “Construction of Trunk Railways”, “Management of Technical Condition of Railways”, “Tunnels and Metropolitans”, “Bridges”, “Construction of Industrial Transport Roads”.

The teaching staff includes four academicians of the RussianAcademy of Sciences and the RussianAcademy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, 29 Doctors of sciences and 136 Candidates of Sciences. The Institute has in place seven research schools of different profiles: design of transport objects; construction of railways and engineering structures; reliability improvement of construction and operation of railways and others.

High quality of training is proved by numerous awards; they include the laureate diploma of International congress-expo “Global Education – Education without Borders” for the textbook, which was developed by E. Spiridonov and T. Shepitko.

Competitiveness of students. The students are involved in research work, they present at research and technology conferences, win prizes of the annual competition of Research and Technology Works of Youth. Students take top places in regional and national Olympiads.

The Institute develops academic exchange programmes (France, Bulgaria), organizes international student externships in Germany (Technical University of Dresden), USA (Universities of Memphis, Wyoming), Japan (Nippon Steel Corporation) and exchange visits for teachers.

Interaction with employers. The Programme’s graduates are highly-qualified and demanded specialists. In the process of working practice, students solve production tasks. Over 705 of students are admitted by future employers’ orders; after graduation, they work in companies, which commissioned their training. Other graduates are employed with the help of the University’s annual official employment procedure. Graduates work in OJSC “Russian Railways”, building organizations, design and research institutes in Russia and abroad.
