Over many decades of its existence, the Faculty of Economics of Voronezh State University has shown itself to be one of the centers of economic education and science in Russia. High-quality education and an active policy of expansion of international cooperation make the faculty attractive to international students. One of them, Emmanuel Munsha from Zambia, has become a guest of our HED_people column and has told us about what he was driven by when choosing VSU, why he fell in love with Russia and the Russian language, what his extracurricular activities are, and what you should place emphasis on when preparing for admission to a Russian university.

From Africa to Russia

I am 20 years old, and I am from Zambia. I decided to study in Russia because it is famous for world-class educational programs in my field and a unique culture that attracts me. Also, I would like to master the Russian language. My family worried about a great distance, but they responded positively on the whole and supported me.

My first impressions of Russia were very vivid. I was amazed by the grand buildings and historical monuments. Most of all, I was surprised by the Russian culture of hospitality.

Studying is difficult but interesting

I have chosen a profession in economics because I have always been interested in how economic processes work and how they influence human life. Economics helps us better understand how decisions are made in business and the state. When choosing a university, I was looking for a university with a strong academic reputation in my field as it is important for me to get a high-quality education.

Studying Russian was very exciting but difficult for me. I like the Russian language because it is so rich and expressive. It has many beautiful words and interesting fixed phases that reflect the culture and mentality of Russia.

The most difficult subject for me was Microeconomics because of a large amount of theory. I developed preparation plans and tried to study every day to cope with this subject.

I would advise young people, planning to study in Russia, to focus on preparation for admission. It is important to explore different universities and programs to choose something that suits your interests and goals best. Pay your attention to admission requirements and the Russian language study options.

Not only studies

International students at Voronezh State University have every opportunity to lead an eventful student life. I take an active part in many events organized by our Institute of International Education of VSU. I sing Russian songs. I was a volunteer at the World Youth Festival–24 in Sochi.

The most memorable event for me was my participation as the host of a solemn graduation ceremony for international graduates of VSU. This experience was not only responsible but also incredibly inspiring. I saw joy and pride on the graduates’ faces and felt a part of this important event.

I want to stay here

After graduation, I want to stay in Russia. I feel that my life here has become very eventful and interesting, and I want to continue my professional development. I plan to work in economics. And Russia offers plenty of opportunities in this area.
