Programme presentation. The professional activity of students in “Printing Machines and Automated Complexes” includes creation, modernization, operation and repair of printing equipment. This equipment belongs to a category of complex reconfigurable automated machines, the construction of which contains precise mechanical components and parts, high precision electric drives, laser and optical modules, electronic and software control systems. Due to these features of printing equipment, the training of graduates is based on the combination of knowledge in mechanics, electrical engineering and electronics, circuit engineering and informatics.

Material and technical facilities, including laboratories of computer graphics and design and of offset and digital printing, provide conducting disciplinary and cross-disciplinary training as well as laboratory, practical and research work of students. The classrooms are equipped with computers and projectors.

Graduates successfully work as managers and heads for technical development in publishing and printing companies, become heads of technical and repair services of printing houses and chief engineers. Bachelors have an opportunity to continue their education in Master’s and Postgraduate programmes.

Teaching staff. The teaching staff of the Department consists of two professors, seven assistant professors and two senior lecturers. Many teachers have extensive experience in printing industry, including work in senior positions. There is a tradition to invite representatives of printing industry and business community of Saint Petersburg as teachers in specialized disciplines.

The Department participated in an international project on the creation of digital rasterization tools based on adaptive principles of data processing. The teachers obtained patents of the RF and the USA.

The teachers, postgraduates and staff of the Department repeatedly undergo internships in the best Universities of Germany (Stuttgart, Wuppertal, Leipzig).

Interaction with employers. The Department closely cooperates with such printing companies as the State Newspaper Complex, JSC “Ekotek-Plus”, SC “Lyubavich”, SC“Exemplary Printing House”, the Printing House of the RussianAcademy of Sciences “Nauka”, Severodvinsk City Printing House, etc.
