HEI’s image. The Department of Material Science in Mechanical Engineering has been delivering the programme since 1992. Twenty years experience allowed to gain great experience in the realization of the study process and preparation of highly-qualified specialists. Many specialists currently work as top managers in different fields of industry.

Programme presentation. In 2012 the Department successfully passed international public accreditation of educational programmes in the sphere of technologies, was awarded the “European quality label” and was registered in ENAEE (European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education).

The Department has the following research centres: “Nanotechnologies”, Centre for Modern Metal Processing Technologies “NSTU-DMG”, Centre of Welding Technologies “NSTU – Kjellberg”.

Teaching staff. The teaching staff consists of Doctors and Candidates of Sciences including 3 Honoured Workers of Science and Technology of Russian Federation. The Department has its own scientific school. L.I. Tushinsky, professor, Doctor of Science was its founder and manager 50 years ago. 19 postgraduates study at the Department; it is a sign of significance and interest of youth in this sphere of science.

Competitiveness of students. Students are placed for work experience in the leading enterprises of Novosibirsk and the Siberian Region. In the course of study senior students also have a possibility to participate in exchange programmes in the frameworks of the agreement on cooperation between the Department and the Institute of Material Science of Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover (Germany).

The study process is organized in such a way that students study not only fundamental technical courses within their profile but also state-of-the-art technologies. All graduates are fluent in a foreign language.

Interaction with employers. NSTU prepares highly-qualified specialists which are in demand in research associations, enterprises, research institutes and educational organizations of Novosibirsk and the Siberian Region. Among these enterprises there are energy industry companies, machine building, aircraft, and instrument engineering plants, institutes of SB RAS, large companies of bank sphere, innovative and computing centres.
