HEI’s image. The Department of Material Science in Mechanical Engineering of Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) has a great experience in realization of study process and education of highly-qualified specialists in the sphere of metal science. All best traditions of the department are used in the preparation of bachelors of nanoengineering. The educational process is focused on creation and effective use of nanomaterials in different fields of industry.

Programme presentation. One of the particularities of the study process is the use of a wide range of modern analytical as well as technological equipment (CNC metal-working complexes, modern welders). Research centres “Nanotechnologies”, “Optical and Raster Microscopy Carl Zeiss – NSTU”, Centre for Modern Metal Processing Technologies “NSTU-DMG”, Centre of Welding Technologies “NSTU – Kjellberg” supplied with modern equipment of leading manufacturers are founded at the department.

Great emphasis is placed on students’ participation in research activity under professors’ and assistant professors’ supervision. There are NSTU grants for students studying in the sphere of nanoengineering and taking an active part in research activities. In addition, a group of German companies “KjellbergFinsterwalde” annually awards an additional scholarship equal to 300 euros a month for achievements in the sphere of science and foreign language skills.

Competitiveness of students. About 50 Russian and foreign students, studying in the sphere of metal science annually participate in the work of the Russian-German Summer School “General Machine Engineering and Metal Science. Modern Methods of Analysis and Production”. The school functions in the frameworks of agreement on cooperation between the graduate department and The Faculty of Engineering of TheRheinMain University of Applied Sciences (Germany). It is the norm for students to be fluent in a foreign language.

Interaction with employers. Graduates of the educational programme are qualified specialists which are highly demanded in enterprises, research and manufacturing associations, research institutes and educational organizations of Novosibirsk and the Siberian Region. These are mainly energy industry companies, machine building, aircraft and instrument engineering plants, institutes of SB RAS.
