HEI’s image. One of the primary objectives of higher technical education is to train specialists in the field of modern materials science and nanosystem technologies. Professional interests of the programme’s graduates are connected with developing and manufacturing application of advanced high technologies in the sphere of nanomaterials, the enhancement of the manufacturing process and the output of production, demanded on the market.

To ensure quality educational process in the given area of training the Faculty has in place educational laboratories fitted with modern computer, multimedia, research and technological equipment. Senior Bachelor and Master Degree students perform research in the “clean zones” laboratories and Research and Education Centre of “Photovoltaics and Nanotechnologies”.

Teaching staff. Over 75% of teachers in specialized disciplines have academic degrees and titles; the average age of the staff at the Department is 43. The teachers have repeatedly won regional, national and international contests including grant competitions (“U.M.N.I.K”, START, Polzunov Grants and others). The teaching staff took part in international programmes Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, DAAD and underwent internships in the Nanocentre of the LondonUniversity and ChemnitzTechnicalUniversity.

Competitiveness of students. The average passing grade of applicants in the Unified State Exam is high. Among the applicants there are winners of city and regional Olympiads and prize winners of national Olympiads in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Every year students in the given area of training obtain scholarships of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation, the Governor of the Stavropol Region and get personal grants of research and educational programmes in the field of materials science and nanomaterials technology. During the training period students perform practical research into the synthesis of new materials and study of their properties. Some research results are recognized at the national and international levels.

Interaction with employers. The educational programme is developed in cooperation with the regional employers, among which there are leading Russian companies for the production of monocrystals and new composite materials. Students’ placement for training, work experience and pre-degree practice is carried out in cooperation with the following companies, which have long-term partnership agreements with NCFU: CJSC “Monokristall”, JSC Radio Engineering Plant “Signal”, LLC Research and Production Company “LYUM” and others.
