Achievements and awards. The program successfully underwent state accreditation in 2018. Students annually get scholarships of the President and the Government of the RF, the grants “Scholarships of Successful First-Year Students” from the DELL EMC company in cooperation with Leonhard Euler International Charitable Foundation for Mathematics, win international hackathons (“Young Minds for Smart City” in 2019, “code4piter.ru” in 2017), the all-Russian contest held by the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises “UMNIK” in 2016. The teachers win contests of the best basic research projects, win grants of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (2016, 2017, 2019).
Teaching staff. The academic degree holders ratio is 71%, 92% carry out discipline-related research, academic and/or practical activities, 12% are heads or employees of infocommunications orgnizations.
Facilities and resources. The department has two research laboratories: the laboratory of data transmission networks and systems and the laboratory of multimedia data processing fitted with state-of-the-art equipment.
Research. The promising research areas include: antinoise coding, low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN), technologies of 4G/5G wireless networks, multimedia data processing.
Education. The department provides intensive training of specialists in the fields of data processing, communications, systems and means of communication.
Strategic partners. Russian and foreign industrial partners are Nokia Solutions and Networks, EMC Saint Petersburg Development Center, Luxoft Professional, Huawei, Leningrad Branch of Scientific Research Institute of Radio, Inteltech, the Committee of Informatization and Communication of Saint Petersburg, Selectel, Internet of Things Laboratory, St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, SevenTest Research and Engineering Center, Gazpromneft-Nefteservis.
International projects and programs. The university cooperates with Tampere University of Technology (Finland), the Finnish-Russian University Cooperation in Telecommunication (FRUCT), Heriot-Watt University (Great Britain), Chenzhuan Aviation College (China).
Competitive advantages. Graduates obtain a high qualification both in infocommunication technologies and communications systems, and in information security. Students have an opportunity to pursue the Master’s program jointly implemented with Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.
