Achievements and awards. The program was accredited in 2018. Students’ projects are frequent winners of the grants of the UMNIK contest held by the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises.

Teaching staff includes highly qualified specialists, Doctors and Candidates of Sciences, leading specialists of specialized enterprises. There is a specialized department of radio engineering and means of communication for telemedicine and the Emergencies Ministry established at RIPR.

Facilities and resources. State-of-the-art laboratories: Computer simulation; Electronics; Radio engineering circuits and signals; Microwave antennas and devices; Radioelectronic complexes; the radio receiving equipment laboratory.

Research is conducted in the field of performance improvement of next-generation cellular communication systems based on space-time signal processing and study of methods for improving efficiency of high-speed data communication over non-stationary shortwave radio channels.

Education. The department trains universal specialists able to carry out R&D activities in the field of adaptive signal correction outside stationary communication channels, development of radiolectronic systems for transmitting commands over a radio channel using Bluetooth, interference immunity improvement of satellite telemetry data transmission radio channels, development of radioelectronic control devices for biofeedback systems and diagnostic complexes, etc.

Strategic partners. RIPR, VNIIRA, I. I. Dzhanelidze Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, Avangard, Radiopribor, Inteltech, Radar mms, Granit-Electron, Holding company of United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation, etc. The department participates in the work of clusters: the North-Western Cluster of Medical, Pharmaceutical Industry and Radiation Technologies; Translational Medicine; IT and Radioelectronics.

International projects and programs. The institute has a successful youth unit of international science societies SPIE and OSA. Students and postgraduate students win prizes in international conferences on electronics, optics and photonics in the USA and France.

Competitive advantages. Graduates are in high demand at numerous research institutes, design and engineering and manufacturing enterprises: Leading Design Research Institute-5, Leningrad Branch of Central Research Institute of Communications, CRTS, etc. They can pursue Master’s and postgraduate degrees, undertake study placement abroad.
