Achievements and awards. The program successfully underwent state accreditation in 2018.
Teaching staff. The academic degree holders ratio is 95%. The department employs two Doctors of Engineering Sciences. The teachers win contests of the best basic research projects, win grants of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
Facilities and resources. The research laboratories of technical information protection, information security firmware, protected information systems, the laboratory of game systems and the Internet of Things.
Research. The promising research areas include: IoT-developments and rapid prototyping techniques; the network data delivery infrastructure using technologies such as LoraWAN, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Smart; development and construction of sensor networks; study of wireless ad hoc networks; post-quantum cryptography; distributed cryptographic protocols; steganography methods; development of antinoise data coding methods for mobile and optical communication systems, in distributed data storage systems, for information security, for use of data communications networks at a transport level; development of emerging standards of wire and wireless communications.
Education. Students participate in real-life research and industrial projects acquiring skills of design, prototyping and analysis of efficiency of Internet of Things systems and their individual components; get scholarships of the President and the Government of the RF, win international hackathons, national and international WorldSkills championships, have honorary diplomas of the International Society of Automation ISA.
Strategic partners. Intel, PTC, Nokia Solutions and Networks, EMC St. Petersburg Development Center, Luxoft Professional, Huawei, Leningrad Branch of Scientific Research Institute of Radio, Inteltech, the Committee of Informatization and Communication of Saint Petersburg, Selectel, Internet of Things Laboratory, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.
International projects and programs. The university cooperates with Tampere University of Technology (Finland), the Finnish-Russian University Cooperation in Telecommunication (FRUCT).
Competitive advantages. SUAI comprises the Regional Center of NTI Competencies for the Northwestern Federal District which expands and deepens a major program in cooperation with academic and industrial partners improving the quality of education and enhancing competitiveness of graduates in the labor market.
