Achievements and awards. The program successfully underwent state accreditation in 2018. Students annually get scholarships of the President and the Government of the RF, win all-Russian contests for students of aeronautical universities (“Student Leaders of the Aviation Industry” in 2020). The teachers of the department have significantly contributed to training of teaching staff for Tula State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, aerospace universities of Beijing and Nanjing, and other HEIs.

Teaching staff. Training is provided by two Doctors of Engineering Sciences, Honored Science Workers, 11 Candidates of Engineering Sciences, two of whom are Honored Workers of Education of the RF. The leading specialists of instrument making enterprises of Saint Petersburg are engaged in the teaching process. The average academic degree holders ratio is 95%.

Facilities and resources. The department has five research laboratories: the wind tunnel laboratory based on the wind tunnel, the laboratory of flight data collection and processing systems, the laboratory of on-board instrument sets, CPTs of on-board aircraft and radioelectronic equipment sets, real-life aviation technology.

Research. The main research areas include: micromechanical inertial sensitive elements (MEMS-technologies) and small scale systems of positioning, navigation and control based on them; systems of gyrostabilization of devices in space installed on mobile objects; navigation information processing.

Education. The disciplines are taught using state-of-the-art learning technologies: there are multimedia lecture halls, display rooms, automated laboratory benches and facilities. Interactive learning technologies based on electronic textbooks and academic courses are developed.

Strategic partners. State Research Center of the Russian Federation “Concern CSRI Elektropribor,” Research Institute of Control Devices, Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau, VNIIRA, Radar mms, Girooptika, Design Bureau Arsenal named after M.V. Frunze, JSC Concern Avrora Scientific and Production Association, etc.

Competitive advantages. The department is a party to several agreements between universities and industrial enterprises of Saint Petersburg on joint coordinated and in-depth training of specialists for high technology areas of precision instrument engineering. Graduates have a high level of professional competence and are in high demand both in aerospace forces and at civil aviation airlines.
