The main areas of research conducted by the teachers and other staff of the department are basic and applied research on prediction of behavior of complex systems, on the use of intelligent techniques and models when developing teaching and knowledge control systems. As part of this program research is conducted in the field of intelligent automated design systems for production processes in machine building and intelligent control systems for unmanned aerial vehicles.

The university constantly cooperates with leading Russian HEIs such as Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI," Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (Technical University), Southern Federal University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University as well as numerous organizations of the Republic of Dagestan.

International projects and programs. In cooperation with their teachers, students participate in and win various contests (the UMNIK Innovation Contest, the annual all-Russian contest of information technologies and information security "Smart Russia," the START program of the Foundation for Assistance to Small and Medium-Sized Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology, the International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies “Archimedes,” the International exhibition " Measurements, World, Person," etc.).
