Programme presentation. The aim of the programme is to train competitive specialists in the field of linguistics and cross-cultural communication for practical, research and organization activity. To implement educational programmes in Linguistics a competency approach is used, which combines fundamental theoretical education and mastering practical skills in cross-cultural communication, linguistic education and translation. This allows the graduates to solve such professional problems as the application of mod-ern techniques, organization forms and technologies of cross-cultural communication, ways to resolve conflicts in cross-cultural communication, application of modern cross-platform technologies of education, upbringing and evaluating learning outcomes, etc.

Material and technical resources ensure high standard training. All the computers are networked and have an Internet access. The media library contains databases in theoretical and practical courses of the curriculum and periodicals. The students can work with electronic catalogues, periodicals, Russian and foreign full-text databases. Besides, there is a reading hall, micro-training study room, two language laboratories providing conditions for foreign languages practical training. The lecture rooms are equipped with mod-ern appliances (projectors, laptops, interactive boards). There are hardware and software complexes for simultaneous and consecutive translation.

Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) FederalUniversity (Arkhangelsk), RussianStateUniversity for Humanities, Smolensk Orthodox Theological Seminary, Samara State Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities, MininNizhniyNovgorodPedagogicalUniversity.

In 2012, the educational programmes in Linguistics were accredited by the National Centre for Public Accreditation.

Teaching staff. The Major Departments are the Department of Linguistics and Linguodidactics, headed by A. Budarina, and the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation, headed by E. Shevchenko. The teachers are members of a number of Russian and international associations: USA IVLP Alumni, National Association of Teachers of English (NATE), the Russian Cognitive Linguists Association, the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (ITEFL, etc.).

Students and teachers undergo internships in partner HEIs: the University of Greifswald and the University of Kiel (Germany), the University of Turku (Finland), the University of Luxembourg and GotlandUniversity (Sweden), the BolognaUniversity (Forli, Italy), BusinessSchool (Copenhagen, Denmark) and the University of the West of England (UK).

Competitiveness of students. Students learn a wide range of foreign languages: English, German, French, Swedish, and Spanish. Graduates in “Translation and Theory of Translation”, “Conference Translation”, “Sign Language Interpreting” can work in Russian and international institutions, public authorities which carry out internationalactivities, centres of linguistics as well as in specialized educational institutions, and organizations which need sign language interpretation.

Career opportunities for graduates in “Theory and Methodology of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures” and “Orthodox Culture and Intercultural Communication” are provided by educational institutions, religious and linguistic centres, organizations for social adaptation and rehabilitation, coordination centres involving religious, charity and non-profit organizations.

Masters in “Development of Multicultural Computer Games” can carry out successful activity in the spheres of production, research, expertise, consulting and management as game-designers, technical writers and linguists in the field of intercultural communication, game modelling and in computer games development industry.

Interaction with employers. Delivery of the basic programmes is implemented within agreements on cooperation and placement for work experience with Russian and foreign institutions. Among them are: the Government of the Kaliningrad Region, the Office of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kaliningrad, regional office for support of the EU-Russia Cooperation Programme, National Community of the Deaf, Boarding School for Children, regional companies for games development LLC “RealoreStudios”, LLC “KDVISION”, LLC “Herocraft”.
