HEI’s image. The mission of the Institute for Transport and Technical Service is training highly-qualified and competitive specialists – bachelors, masters, candidates and doctors of sciences in the field of transportation, machine building, and technical service based on the integration of research and academic process; fundamental practical knowledge-centred education and training.

Programme presentation. Over the time of this study programme existence at the University, more than 1,500 engineers have been trained. They work in their professional field at the region’s transportation enterprises, the Department of Motor Vehicles and Traffic Control, the Administration of the State Vehicular Control, regional Duma and City’s Council, local administrative bodies of Kaliningrad Region and in other institutions.

In 2012 the Technology of Transport Processes programme was accredited by the National Centre for Public Accreditation (Certificate No. 1341-08-A004.5 of December 7, 2012).

For several years, the network interaction with the RussianUniversities and sVAT educational institutions has been supported: Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI), Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Vocational School of Branch Technologies (Kaliningrad Region), etc. Long-term partner-ship relations with foreign universities, such as Transport and Telecommunication Institute (Latvia), Lisbon Higher Engineering School (Portugal), Belorussian-Russian University (Republic of Belarus), Institute for Problems of Strength of the National Academy of Sciences (Ukraine).

The infrastructure of the Institute for Transport and Technical Service includes a laboratory centre for diagnostics and repair of automobiles and several specialized laboratories – metrology standardisation and certification; materials and structures strength; electrical engineering and electronics; job safety and safety engineering; a mobile transportation laboratory ’Trassa’. Besides, there is a regional research and education Centre for Problems of Transportation and Shipbuilding, Aviation training centre and five computer study rooms.

The students can attend a sports centre with a swimming pool, a clinic of Medical centre of the University.

Teaching staff. The programme is delivered by highly qualified staff: among the teachers there are 18% of Doctors and 42% of Candidates of Sciences.

Together with undergraduates and postgraduates, the teachers of the Institute takepart in the development of bicycle paths concept; evaluation and development of a complex traffic scheme; creation of the intellectual structure “Smart House”; development of technical standard documents on repair of metal hull structures using rein-forced polymeric materials and sandwich structures. The teachers are involved in the working group on the development of deep-water port construction in the Kaliningradregion.

The teachers have obtained more than 30 author’s certificates and patents for inventions and 16 certificates for software registered in Rospatent. In 2014, the staff obtained the certificate of the Head Office of the Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping for performance of works on design, modernization and operation of marine vessels.

Competitiveness of students. The undergraduate students and postgraduates are prize winners of various contests and nominations such as “National Heritage of Russia”, grant contest of the International Fuel and Power Association, grant contests of the Potanin Fund, the Baltic Business Club, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kaliningrad Region, etc.

Interaction with employers. Among the priorities of the Institute there is close cooperation with the leading regional employers such as LLC “Avtotor Holding”, the Association of International Road Carriers (branch in the Kaliningrad Region), Association of Vehicle Inspection Offices, “Khrabrovo” Airport, official dealers of Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Volkswagen, Opel, etc. In cooperation with employers the Institute organizes resource centres at partner companies, places students for work experience, conducts joint research activities and promotes employment of graduates.

Generally, the main employers of Bachelors and Masters are the Government of the Kaliningrad Region, city administration, companies for carriage of cargo and passengers, services for traffic safety, transport-expediting enterprises, transport sub-divisions of trade, construction and industrial organizations, logistic companies, car dealerships and services and offices for information support of transport activities.
