Programme presentation. The educational process in the given area is based on a combination of fundamental training in computer technologies with practical orientation to software work maintenance. There is a Bachelor’s degree programme “Automated Systems of Information Processing and Control”.
The educational process is provided with up-to-date material and technical facilities, which include computer classrooms, video projectors, interactive board Mimio, training robot, 3D printer, etc. Remote communication of students and teachers is widely implemented.
Teaching staff. At the Department of Information and Control Systems of the Northwestern Institute of Printing there are three Doctors and ten Candidates of Sciences. The average age of the teaching staff is about 45. The staff keeps track of rapid changes in IT and makes an effort to implement actual changes in the educational process. The leading teachers of the Institute are invited abroad as visiting lectures.
The Department is represented in the United Educational and Methodological Council in the area of “Information Systems and Technologies” and has contacts with other Russian departments in this area. For more than 10 years the teaching staff has been involved in the development of the new projects of the Federal State Educational Standards.
Competitiveness of students. During the recent years students have published about 40 papers including foreign publications. The Major Department supervises the work of the section “IT in Publishing and Printing Industry” at the Saint Petersburg International Conference “Regional Informatics”. The Institute regularly carries out international youth conferences “PRINT”. Students are involved in grant work and have an opportunity to undergo academic internships in
Interaction with employers. As a rule, students are placed for work experience in computer centres, IT-departments of big companies and organizations which develop software.
Upon completion of training many graduates make progress in their career and occupy the positions of top IT-specialists and heads of departments. Some graduates meet with students to share their professional experience and conduct master-classes in the University. Representatives of printing industry take part in the work of the State Attestation Commission.
