Programme presentation. The sphere of activity of graduates in the given area includes design, modelling and making layouts of applied art products based on the traditions of decorative and applied art and taking into account modern social, economic and aesthetic requirements.

The Institute has in place many creative studios: “Metal Craft and Artistic Enamelling”, “Artistic Working-Up of Leather and Fabric Objects”, “Artistic Objects from Bone and Stone”, “Artistic Painting of Fabric”, “The Ethnic Doll”, “Graphics in Decorative and Applied Art”, “Interior”, etc.

The graduates create expressive works of art and have a high professional level of technical mastery. They are demanded as designers and artists of decorative and applied art in the artistic and technological production of folk craft companies, and apply their knowledge in pedagogical and research activity.

Competitiveness of students. According to the agreement with the EstonianAcademy of Arts, students are awarded grants of the HEI for studies and performing creative projects in English. Also the Finnish-Russian student exchange programme FIRST is actively developing, within which students are provided with an opportunity to obtain a scholarship in order to have internship and work experience in HEIs of Finland.

The educational process is carried out using active and interactive methods of learning. Students successfully present their creative and research works at national and international exhibitions, contests and annual research and practical conferences “Days of Youth Innovation”. Students are involved in designing and manufacturing products on orders. Master’s degree students often undergo an internship in the HEI and become teachers of the University.

Interaction with employers. Students acquire deep theoretical knowledge in the field of design and technology of applied art products and have a unique opportunity to put their creative ideas into life in workshops of stone and bone carving, mosaic, weaving, jeweller workshops, etc.

The Institute closely cooperates with Saint Petersburg museums on the restoration of works of art. There is an opportunity to be placed for work experience at national and foreign enterprises and companies.
