Teaching staff. The program is implemented by over 116 teachers (over 75% have an academic degree) including members of expert, coordination, science and technology, dissertation councils under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Russian Railways company, heads of transport and logistics company, Railway Research Institute (VNIIZHT JSC), and other research and design organizations.

Facilities and resources. The unique training and laboratory facilities include the TrainingCenter for Railway Traffic Control, the Center for Transportation and Logistics Technologies, the TransportationSecurityCenter andmultimodal transport systems.

Research. The main research areas include simulation modeling of transportation systems performance, production processes in logistics; the substantiation of a stage-by-stage approach to the development of railway stations and junctions; the design of stations of specialized railway lines. The university participates in the projects “Modernization of the railway infrastructure of the Baikal-Amur Mainline and the Trans-Siberian Railway”, “Construction of railway approaches to the transport crossing through the KerchStrait,” “The Yekaterinburg – Chelyabinsk High-Speed Railway,” and others.

Education. The university applies digital technologies: the railway section model (an element of the October Railway range) allows students to practise their dispatching control skills using state-of-the-art information systems. It offers supplementary education programs and organizes author's classes conducted by top companies.

Strategic partners. The university cooperates with the Russian Railways company, High-Speed Rail Lines OJSC, the Institute of Economy and Development of Transport JSC, Railway Research Institute (VNIIZHT JSC), Research and Design Institute of Informatization, Automation and Communication in Railway Transport (NIIAS JSC), St. Petersburg Metro, the INTEX company, and others.

International projects and programs. The university participates in the project “Central Asia in the system of international transport corridors: strategic prospects and unrealised potential;” along with participation in the International Business Forum “Strategic Partnership 1520: Central Europe;” and the World Congress on High Speed Rail. It has agreements with 70 countries (the European Diploma Supplement, double degree programs, study abroad placements, participation in the Erasmus+ program).

Competitive advantages. Over 95% of students undertake internships and get employed at leading enterprises of the sector. Financial assistance for students includes enhanced scholarships, grants. There are eight student accommodation blocks, a gym, a swimming pool, a clinic and a geological facility. Students can join specialized sports clubs, artistic collectives, student production brigades and participate in volunteering activities.

Assistance and support for foreign students and teachers. The university provides pre-university training for foreign citizens (applicants), organizes summer/winter schools.
