The latest results of the University Ranking conducted by the CHE, Centre for Higher Education were published today by DIE ZEIT in the ZEIT Study Guide 2019/20 and on ZEIT CAMPUS ONLINE. The survey of more than 150,000 students and the examination of 300+ universities and universities of applied sciences make the ranking the most extensive and detailed comparison of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the German-speaking world.
The subjects reassessed this year were Architecture, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering / Applied Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Education Science, Electrical/Information Engineering, Energy Systems, English/North American Studies, Environmental Engineering, German Language and Literature, Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physical Technology, Process Engineering, Psychology and Romance Studies.
Besides providing facts about academic studies, teaching and research, the ranking also features students’ opinions about study conditions at their HEI. The 292-page ZEIT Study Guide contains excerpts from the ranking, and provides answers to key questions regarding entering higher education. The guide also helps prospective students decide which subject is right for them and where best to study this subject, as well as providing advice on how to apply for a place and finance their studies.
Martin Spiewak, Editor-in-Chief of the ZEIT Study Guide: “After completing school, the opportunities open to Abitur holders are endless. This multitude of options may cause uncertainty or overwhelm prospective students, who fear they may take a wrong turn. The aim of our study guide is to offer orientation to young people and to allay their fears.”
Frank Ziegele, Executive Director of the CHE Centre for Higher Education: “The CHE University Ranking asks students what conditions are really like at their university. In this way, current students are given a say, and would-be students receive truly first-hand information about what awaits them at the relevant university.”
The full CHE University Ranking is now also available on ZEIT CAMPUS ONLINE at www.zeit.de/che-ranking. By applying numerous interactive search options, users can adapt the ranking to their individual study needs to find the right HEI.
