For the first time, Tomsk Polytechnic University is hosting the large-scale seminar «TPU International Week 2019» aimed at acquainting employees of international offices of Asian and European universities with the Russian education system and universities of Tomsk.
Twenty-three foreign organizations from 11 countries (Germany, Portugal, the USA, Sweden, the Netherlands, China, Poland, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Vietnam) visited Tomsk to take part in the seminar. Among them are Technical University Darmstadt, Wageningen University and Research Center, Maastricht University, NOVA University, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Moscow, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Nazarbayev University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and others.
Liliya Kiryanova, Vice-Rector for External Affairs of Tomsk Polytechnic University, says that the National Project for Education sets a very ambitious goal for all universities of Tomsk to double the number of international students. The Tomsk Region is one of the leaders in this national project. The scientists work at the global level, and their projects can only be implemented at international collaborations. So, an idea started up to hold the international week at TPU to show what Tomsk is, what educational and scientific projects are implemented here, and what options for cooperation can be offered.
From the perspective of international cooperation, this is the first project jointly implemented by all universities of Tomsk (Tomsk Polytechnic University, Tomsk State University, Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics, Siberian State Medical University, Tomsk State University of Architecture and Building, and Tomsk State Pedagogical University). All six universities present their programs and opportunities. Besides, it is planned that the event will be held annually.
The representatives of Tomsk universities took part in the session «Tomsk: the City of Students and Universities» and told foreign guests about their universities. The universities' representatives agreed with a number of foreign partners to hold summer and winter schools and negotiated the creation of joint Bachelor's and Master's programs.
Tomsk is called the Siberian Athens. The participants have an opportunity to personally make sure that the city has a great innovation and academic potential where six universities form not only a special student atmosphere, but also a well-developed cultural and business environment.
According to Victor Dyomin, Acting Rector of TPU, the university considers the international week format as a platform for successful interaction between Tomsk universities and representatives of international offices of leading universities of Russia, Asia, and Europe.
This is a constructive multilateral dialogue during which problems related to cooperation in education and research will be solved, new forms of cooperation will be born, mutually beneficial contacts will be established and, of course, new joint projects will be launched.
