The ranking of Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR)
The Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR) has recently compiled a national ranking list of the Kazakh universities to determine the best HEIs by professional spheres. The IAAR ranking is based on the evaluation of educational programs by the following parameters: concentration of talented teachers, researchers and students; student and staff mobility; training quality and graduate employability; a high level of interaction between HEIs and employers; competitiveness of scientific publications of teachers, doctoral students and Master's students.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University ranked 1st in many fields of study including humanities and engineering sciences.
The best universities by fields of study according to this ranking are as follows:
Arts - T.K. Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts
Musical Art - Kazakh National Conservatory
Medicine - West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov State Medical University
Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary - Kazakh National Agrarian University
Military Science and Safety - L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University
Computer Science - Kainar Academy
The ranking of the Independent Kazakh Agency for Quality Assurance in Education
The Independent Kazakh Agency for Quality Assurance in Education compiled its own ranking of the best HEIs by fields of activity and by each educational program. The institutional ranking is based on the three constituents: the first one is evaluation of quality of HEI's academic resources (70% of the total score), the second one is an expert evaluation of the quality of HEIs' activity (15%) and the third one is an evaluation of HEIs' activity based on the survey of employers and government authorities (15%).
According to this ranking, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was recognized as the best comprehensive university of the country in 2017.
Kazakh-British Technical University led the list of the best technological HEIs, and Karaganda Economic University of Kazpotrebsouz was the first among economic and humanitarian HEIs. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University was the leader in Kazakhstan's medical education, and Kazakh State Women's Teacher Training University was recognized as the best pedagogical HEI. The ranking of artistic HEIs only featured Kazakh National University of Arts.
The Atameken ranking
While the abovementioned rankings are based on the content and achievements of HEIs, teachers and students, the ranking compiled by the national chamber of entrepreneurs of the Republic Kazakhstan "Atameken" is more focused on graduates' opportunities and evaluation of HEIs by employers. The organization has evaluated the 'Information Systems' educational program by different parameters. The ranking leaders were Kazakh-British Technical University, International Information Technology University, and D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University.
The Top 3 by the percentage of employed graduates in the Atameken's were Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications named after M.Tynyshpaev, M.Utemisov West Kazakhstan State University, and Kazakh-British Technical University.
The most prestigious HEIs of Kazakhstan, in the opinion of regional employers and specialists and according to the abovementioned ranking, were Kazakh-British Technical University, Atyrau University of Oil and Gas, Suleyman Demirel University, Narxoz University and International Information Technology University.
