Programme presentation. Education and training of bachelors of the specialization is based on the fundamental theory and practice in the sphere of contemporary computer technologies, applied and system programming, computer networks and information systems. Students acquire profound knowledge in the field of computing mathematics, mathematical modelling, methods of analysis and data processing, and artificial intellect.

Within the framework of the Programme the Faculty offers educational specialization “System programming and computer technologies”, Master’s programme “Applied Mathematics and Informatics” and Postgraduate programme 05.13.17 “Theoretical foundations of informatics”.

Educational process is supported with contemporary equipment and technical facilities – computer classrooms, extensive library collections, gyms and stadiums.

Penza State University offers one more best educational program in the field of Physical and Mathematical Sciences:

MATHEMATICAL SUPPORT AND MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS – MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS - Bachelor’s program, Postgraduate program

Teaching staff. The teaching staff of the department “Computer Technologies” includes three Professors – Doctors of sciences, 7 Associate Professors – Candidates of Sciences. The teachers are engaged in educational and research activities in the field of neural network technologies. The results of the research, conducted by the teachers of the Department, are included into the Programme and comprise exclusive original courses on numerical methods, computer modelling, real-time systems, and neural networks. V.I. Gorbachenko’s learning guide “Computer linear algebra with examples in MATLAB” is recommended by Mathworks company – the developer of MATHLAB system.

The Faculty holds the annual research conference “Problems of informatics in education, management, economy and engineering”.

Competitiveness of students. In 2013 the average passing grade for the Programme’s applicants was 197.7. The students of the Faculty actively participate in research work, present reports at conferences, and take part in programming competitions.

The employability of the Faculty’s graduates is very high both in the region and across Russia. The absolute majority of the graduates are employed according to their specialty in different enterprises: OAO “Penza Research Electrotechnical Institute” (biometrics, information security), OAO “Rubin”, OAO “Radiozavod”, Protsenko Industrial Group “Start” (in-formation and managing systems of special purpose), and departments of automation of industrial and commercial enterprises, banks.
