Programme presentation. The educational programme “Dentistry” is one of the major programmes of SamaraStateMedicalUniversity. Students master their professional competencies in the vocational training centre of simulation learning based on the powerful material and technical support.

In the Dental Centre of the HEI, students learn the state-of-the-art technologies of dental treatment, prosthetics, moulding and surgical procedures.

Teaching staff. An important role in specialists’ training is played by the teaching staff of the Dentistry Institute on the basis of university clinics, which successfully accomplish the mission of the HEI – to teach, to heal and to pursue research. The Institute is headed by D.A. Trunin, professor, Vice-President of the Dental Association of Russia, chief dental specialist of the Volga Federal District.

About 300 teachers are involved in the educational programme’s implementation. One sixth of them are staff members of the special departments of Therapeutic Dentistry, Prosthetic Dentistry, Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry and Pediatric Dentistry. More than 90% of teachers have academic degrees and titles. There are 15 Doctors of Medical Sciences at the departments of the Faculty. As of the end of academic year, the departments took the first place in the University in research work.

Competitiveness of students. Students in Dentistry annually become winners of state and non-state scholarship programmes: scholarships of the Rector and the Academic Council of Samara State Medical University and T.I. Eroshevsky scholarship. Students also have become winners in Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Germany. In 2014, a number of students were placed for practice in Belarus, Uzbekistan, Germany and other countries.

The Institute actively cooperates with the University of Greifswald (Germany) and the company IvoclarVivadent: two groups of students under the guidance of the teachers of dental departments are annually placed for internship. Research conferences of SamaraStateMedicalUniversity are attended by representatives of such companies as Oral-B, Colgate, Rocs.

Interaction with employers. Future professionals interact with organizations of practical stomatology within vocational and academic practices from the 2nd year of training. Strategic partners of the University include such dental polyclinics and hospitals of Samara as SamaraRegionalClinicalHospital named after M.I. Kalinin, JSC “Sentyabr” Clinic, the Centre for Complex Stomatology, the Emergency Dental Care Service and others.
