Kazan Federal University and a number of leading universities of Kazakhstan are planning to launch double degree Master's programs from the next academic year. This agreement was reached during the visit of Kazakhstan's representative delegation headed by Danial Akhmetov, Head of administration of East Kazakhstan Province, to KFU.
The delegation of East Kazakhstan Province consisted of about 30 people including heads of administration of various regions of the province, heads of directorates, regional schools, rectors of leading HEIs. The honored guests visiting KFU were accompanied by Shamil Gafarov, Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan, Head of Administration of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan; Denis Valeev, Plenipotentiary of Tatarstan in Kazakhstan; Stanislav Andreev, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, and other public officials. At KFU the delegation was welcomed by Danis Nurgaliev, Vice Rector for Research.
The Head of administration of East Kazakhstan Province told about the steps taken by the Kazakh authorities to develop the field of education. He put a special focus on the teaching of IT-technologies to the rising generation. In particular, Kazakh schoolchildren will start studying IT-programming as early as in the first grade.
According to Danis Nurgaliev, the management of Kazan Federal University had a meeting with Rectors of East Kazakhstan State Technical University and S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University. From the next academic year, the universities are planning to launch joint double degree Master's programs (one year of study in Kazakhstan, and another year in Tatarstan) in the field of Pedagogics as well as IT, digitization, engineering, additive technologies. In its turn, KFU is interested in sending students to Kazakh HEIs to pursue a double degree program in the field of IT, augmented and virtual realities.
'In the nearest time specialists in the particular fields will pay visits to KSU to discuss the interaction issues,' — said Vice Rector of KFU.
The launch of exchange programs was also discussed, when KFU students will be able to undertake their internship in Kazakhstan, first of all, in the field of geology.
'We have a long-established relationship with Kazakhstan in the field of humanities and culture. Today we are developing challenging ties in the field of archaeology, which is related, in particular, to the Silk Road Program. We have been cooperating with the colleagues from Kazakhstan in the field of oil and gas extraction and oil refining for a long time. We have a number of interesting projects in this area. After the meeting with the delegation of East Kazakhstan Province we have some attractive proposals for cooperation in the field of geology and mining operation.'
In his turn, Mukhtar Tolegen, Rector of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University, told about the arrangements reached with Kazan University.
'We have agreed to sign a memorandum between our university and KFU. We have a lot of areas of common interest, big prospects for cooperation, ambitious plans. We would like to make joint publications in prestigious journals, develop double degree programs and joint educational programs in the field of pedagogy and psychology, education, law and humanities, IT and digitization. KFU is of the utmost interest to us because it has well-developed IT, digitization, robotics.'
During the opening Danial Akhmetov said that he had already visited Kazan Federal University, which enrolls some students from Kazakhstan, and expressed his hope for further strengthening of cooperation in the field of education and science.
For reference: there is a long history of cooperation between KFU and Kazakh HEIs. Over a period of 2013 - 2018 the scientists of KFU have prepared 81 scientific publications in cooperation with the colleagues from Kazakh universities. At the moment, Kazan Federal University enrolls over 650 students from Kazakhstan.
