At the end of November 2018 His Excellency Mr. Haidar Mansour Hadi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to the Russian Federation, visited Ulyanovsk at the invitation of Sergey Morozov, Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region and Alexander Pinkov, Acting Rector of UlSTU.
The first day of the visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq started with the major event– participation in the meeting of the Academic Council of Ulyanovsk State Technical University (UlSTU) devoted to the conferment of the title of Honorary Professor of UlSTU to His Excellency Mr. Haidar Mansour Hadi for outstanding contributions in the development of educational and scientific cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the Russian Federation ad exemplified by Ulyanovsk State Technical University .
Then the Embassy representatives of UlSTU had a talk with Alexander Pinkov, Acting Rector of UlSTU and shared their opinions on cooperation areas to be developed between Ulyanovsk State Technical University and educational and scientific organizations of the Republic of Iraq and their possible support by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq. The parties were confirmed in their opinion that cooperation can be expanded in a few areas including support of learning the Russian and Arabic languages, cultural and educational exchanges, grant support of educational programs, participation in education fairs, etc.
Another important event of the day was the opening of the Russian-Iraqi Center for Education and Culture. The center will contribute to the development of intercultural dialogue and support of joint educational and cultural projects.
On November 29 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq also met the students of Ulyanovsk State Technical University . Mr. Haidar Mansour Hadi read a lecture on Russian-Iraqi relations noting positive dynamics in cooperation between the two countries. Russian-Iraqi relations have been developing since 1944. In recent times, over 40 agreements, memoranda and contracts have been signed between the Republic of Iraq and the Russian Federation. Positive dynamics in relations can be observed in politics and economics and cultural interaction and education. It is confirmed by students from Iraq coming to Russia for studies. At the moment Ulyanovsk State Technical University enrolls 174 citizens of the Republic of Iraq.
Following the speech of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq the students had the opportunity to ask direct questions to the Ambassador. The questions were about the Ambassador's professional activity, Russian-Iraqi relations, difficulties that foreign students have to face in Russia.
The following event of the visit was the meeting with the citizens of the Republic of Iraq studying at UlSTU. The meeting was dedicated to the problems foreign students face in Russia – migration issues, cultural and linguistic adaptation, papework.
Later, the visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Russian Federation included the meeting with Sergey Morozov, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region, and acquaintance with the potential of the region.
The program was concluded with the second meeting with Acting Rector of UlSTU on November 30, 2018 where the results of the visit were summed up, the arrangements were confirmed and the plans for the future were set up. The plans include expansion of cooperation between UlSTU and universities of Iraq, financial support of the best Iraqi applicants for studies at UlSTU.
