VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava: academic and reasearch partnership

The CzechRepublic is widely regarded as one of the most popular study destination for international students as it has an attractive quality/cost ratio in higher education.

VŠB-TUO is the fourth largest university in Czech Republic with over 22,000 students studying in Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs offering the highest levels of education in engineering, technical, and business related areas based on the interconnection of science, research, education, and the creative activity. It ranks among the top technical universities in the CzechRepublic.

The university courses are organized in eight faculties: Economics; Metallurgy and Materials Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Computer Science; Mining and Geology; Civil Engineering; Safety Engineering; Mechanical Engineering.

 

TechnicalUniversity of Ostrava emphasizes importance of university internationalization and extension of students’ mobility flows. To support these activities university implements conclusions of Bologna declaration and principals of ECTS. It implements joint research and mobility programs with university partners all over the world, regularly recruits students from overseas, participates in and organizes international conferences. VŠB - TechnicalUniversity of Ostrava also invites students from non-partner universities (Freemovers) to apply for any desired courses offered by the university. Students’ Mobility Department creates conditions to realize and enlarge exchange stays for both outgoing as well as incoming students for the period up to one academic year.

The research focuses on raw materials, energy and environmental sciences, computer sciences and information technologies, new materials, structures and technologies, modern engineering, safety technologies, modeling of economic and financial processes - especially research and development intensity and intellectual property protection.

Partnerships across sectors and fields are one of the key activities of Technical University of Ostrava. It develops and sustain long term relationships with a wide range of domestic and foreign companies of public, private and non-profit sectors, foundations, high and grammar schools; it is an active member of many Czech and international organizations, including cluster associations. Involvement in a worldwide network of research and teaching collaborations helps it meet its principles and core values: strong international profile, high quality teaching and research.

The scientific and teaching staff collaborates with research and academic institutions and specialists at both national and international levels. Its research & technology development potential represents an important component of the innovative process in the region and throughout the entire CzechRepublic. It focuses on applied research and close cooperation with industry ensuring relevance in a dynamic international scientific environment. The fact that Technical University of Ostrava is one of the most successful universities in the utilization of European structural funds focused on research is not a coincidence. It is utilizing its excellent position in six areas to develop science and research for the future through the Center of Excellence IT for Innovations, and other top centers.

The latest results of its R&D activities confirm the strength of the human and research potential that the university has at its disposal. Currently the university offers some post-doctoral (postdoc) research positions to international researchers with good knowledge of English language and publication activity, supported by the EU Operational Program Research, Development and Education and the Czech state budget.
