Current position in rankings. The university was ranked 39th in the international ranking of Russian universities of the European Scientific Industrial Chamber ARES in 2018 (41th in 2017); 46th among the best Russian universities according to the rating agency RAEX ("Expert RA") in 2018 (50th in 2017).
Achievements and awards. This program successfully underwent international external evaluation, which is confirmed by the corresponding certificate.
Teaching staff. The faculty employs 27 Professors, 46 Associate Professors, 42 Assistants, five Senior Lecturers including G.A. Makovetskaia, Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Professor Emeritus of SamSMU, Professor (the founder of the academic and research school of pediatrics); F.N. Gilmiiarova, Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, Professor; R.A. Galkin, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, a two-time laureate of the Russian Federation Government Award, Professor; I.E. Poverennova, a laureate of the State Award, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor.
Facilities and resources. The departments are located in two academic buildings, at 23 clinical facilities, university clinics. Students can use 88 classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment and have access to the electronic information educational environment.
Research. Over the past five years, the faculty members have published 1586 works including 1412 articles (515 in journals recommended by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, 119 in foreign journals). Eighty-nine patents for inventions and utility patents have been obtained, 60 theses have been defended, and 48 grants of different levels have been awarded.
Education. The faculty widely uses active and interactive forms of classes (hands-on workshops, simulation courses, role plays, problem-based learning technologies, case methods, etc.) combined with out-of-class work.
Strategic partners. Samara State Medical University is the coordinating institution of the Nizhnevolzhsky research and education medical cluster in the Volga Federal District and cooperates with pediatric faculties of Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky, Bashkir State Medical University, Orenburg State Medical University, and the Medicine Institute of Ogarev Mordovia State University.
International projects and programs. Samara State Medical University is a member of the International Association for Medical Education in Europe implementing the Bologna process. It cooperates with University of Stip (Macedonia), Tashkent Medical Academy and Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute, Vitebsk State Medical University.
Competitive advantages. The Faculty of Pediatrics turns 50 years old in 2019. Over these years, the first-rate pedagogical and academic and research schools have been established to provide high-quality training for pediatric physicians.
