Modern campuses will be established in the Tomsk Region and the Perm Territory

The Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and the Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs have signed agreements with the Perm Territory and the Tomsk Region at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The parties have agreed on cooperation in implementing the project to create a modern multi-functional campus on the territory of these two regions as part of the national project “Education”.

This is a big investment economic project. The campus model is not a federal targeted investment program, but a model that should launch new economic mechanisms. Budget funds will only be a supporting tool. This is a project that should integrate education, regions and the real sector of economy,” noted Mikhail Kotyukov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

As part of the federal program "Education Export", federal budget funds in the amount of 102,2 bln rubles were allocated for the implementation of measures to design, construct and reconstruct campuses for foreign and non-resident students and faculty members with a total design capacity of at least 77,600 places in the period from 2019 to 2024.

“To ensure competitiveness of higher education and attract foreign students, it is necessary to develop an educational infrastructure. The university needs a “smart environment”, said Svetlana Yachevskaya, Deputy Chairperson of the State Development Corporation VEB.RF. The state development corporation can finance such projects independently and also act as an expert who will help to structure the project.

“Tomsk is the official student capital of Russia, the only city in the country which fixed the city-forming role of the academic center in its charter. With the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and the VEB.RF state corporation, we will not just build a modern inter-university campus, but take a big step towards the development of Tomsk as a university city, where students from 79 countries and 78 regions of Russia study," said Sergey Zhvachkin, Governor of the Tomsk Region.
