Belarus and Nigeria are cooperating in the field of education

On December 03, National Open University of Nigeria officially opened the Days of Belarusian Education in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Addressing the audience, Deputy Minister of Education of Belarus Sergey Rudy noted that both countries were interested in expanding the experience of educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the implementation of joint educational programs, in developing cooperation in the field of professional and higher education, advanced training and retraining of personnel for the needs of the real sector of both countries.
The same day b2b negotiations were held with Charles Quaker Dokubo, Special Adviser to the President of Nigeria on Niger Delta. The delegation of Belarus came forward with a proposal to extend Nigerian citizens' positive experience of studying at technical higher education institutions to other higher education institutions and training of highly qualified workers  at institutions of secondary special and vocational education. Today over 400 students from Nigeria study at Belarusian universities. These young people boost expansion of cooperation in the field of education, sectors of economy, industry and social sphere.
It was also found advisable to make enquiries into the opportunities for Nigerian citizens, who got education at Belarusian educational institutions as part of the government program, to pursue Master's programs and postgraduate studies at Belarusian higher education institutions. The Belarusian party reported its readiness to organize retraining and advanced training for graduates of Belarusian, Soviet higher education institutions in engineering, medicine and agriculture. 
After negotiations a working meeting was held with Mallam Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education of Nigeria. At the invitation of the authorities of Africa Community School, the representatives of Belarusian educational institutions took part in interuniversity consultations, conducted interviews with potential applicants and familiarized them with presentations of Belarusian universities. A round table on cooperation in education was held with the participation of representatives of higher education institutions of Nigeria, representatives of the Embassy and the delegation of the Ministry of Education of Belarus and stakeholders from Nigeria. At the end of the visit the Belarusian delegation met with the authorities and representatives of  the Alumni Association of the Belarusian Higher Education Institutions in Nigeria «Belarusniki.»
