"Expert" analytical centre has completed the fourth ranking of scientometric indicators of Russian universities.
Traditionally, "Expert" analytical centre divided rankings into two large blocks: fundamental (evaluates the scale and quality of publication activity) and inventive (evaluates the study of patent activity). Thus, experts are able to identify the leaders in the field of theoretical studies and identify those who figured out how to implement these studies in practice.
The most noticeable change in the list compared to the previous one is in the Mathematics field of study. The first position is now occupied by the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the second is the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. These universities have changed their places.
At the same time, HSE headed not only such fields of study as Economics and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, but also Healthcare. It is noticable that there are 39 universities in Healthcare list, and only 15 of them are specialized, while four of them were in the TOP-10. Sechenov University takes the third place after HSE and Moscow State University. The ranking editors explain the success of non-specialized leaders by active publications in international and interdisciplinary journals.
Moscow State University takes the first lines in such scientific fields of study as Life Sciences, Materials Science, Engineering, Biochemistry, Energy, Ecology, Earth Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, and also Chemical Technologies (together with Novosibirsk State University and ITMO University).
ITMO University is a productive leader not only in Computer Science in the category Artificial Intelligence, but also in the field of Chemistry. To achieve such a result, ITMO University performed a signifacent increase of its scientific activities in this area (in 2012 - 16 articles, in 2018 - 196). As for NUST MISIS, the univerity is a regular headship in Metallurgy.
This year, 125 universities managed to enter the ranking with at least one educational program (while 105 HEIs - 2018). Onle 38 universities are shown in one and the same list (while there 43 HEIs last year). In all 14 lists there is a slight increase in 2 educational organizations: Moscow State University, Novosibirsk State University, St. Petersburg State University, Ural Federal University and Kazan Federal University were expanded by Tomsk Polytechnic University and Tomsk State University.
Experts note that the ranking competition has intensified, and this is evidenced by the rotation of universities in the first dozen of field of study lists.
