Programme presentation. The aim of the programme is to train competitive specialists in the sphere of mass media and mass communications.

The main partners of the institute are MoscowStateUniversity, St. Petersburg State University, Higher school of Economics, Voronezh State University, Faculty of Journalism and Media of Volda University College (Norway), Faculty of Political Science of the University of Torun (Poland), University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland), European Institute of PR (Paris).

The Educational Multimedia Centre, which includes printed media laboratory, student’s radio and TV studio, is actively used in the study process.

Teaching staff. The study programme is delivered by 3 Doctors and 16 Candidates of Sciences, who often combine teaching and professional activity. 15 representatives of the regional media, advertising agencies and PR departments work at the Institute.

Students are taught by both experienced University teachers and well-known professionals; editors and journalists of Western Press media holding Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, Kaliningrad.ru news portal and other media of Kaliningrad Region.

Competitiveness of students. Students of the Journalism major have access to Russian and foreign electronic library systems (EBSCO, Scopus, eLibrary), up-to-date databases, information resources and search systems (Russian State Library, National Institute of Technical Information, Microsoft Academic Search).

The students are placed for work experience at the leading regional media companies and in Der Spiegel, The Novaya Gazeta, NaukaiZhizn periodicals. The Department has trained over 100 graduates, many working as editors and journalists in the leading Russia’ and Region’s media companies: Russia 1, Russia 24, Public Television of Russia, information portals New Kaliningrad, Kaliningrad.ru, Komsomolskaya Pravda in Kaliningrad, etc.

Students of the Department have been prize-winners of the regional completion ’Journalist of the Year’. Students’ graduate papers frequently implement creative projects or new media products.

Regular meetings with the leading journalists, editors, and mass media experts are arranged at the University. At varying times, master-classes were conducted by A. Gordon, V. Solovyov, N. Svanidze, A. Khinstein, etc.
