Programme presentation. The Department of Violin and Viola of the Orchestra Faculty trains highly qualified specialists in the sphere of orchestra and solo instrumental performance of the profile “Orchestral String Instruments (violin and viola)”. Bachelors’ professional activity includes musical performance (solo, ensemble and orchestra); educational activity in the field of musical art and culture; musical pedagogics in secondary professional and higher education institutions, general and further education institutions.

Employability of the graduates is very high in Russia and abroad. They work in leading ensembles and orchestras of Russia: Evgeny Svetlanov State Academic Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia (conductor V.T. Spivakov), the Russian National Orchestra (conductor M.V. Pletnev), and Moscow Philharmonia, the Chamber Orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi”, concert and philharmonic associations. Graduates teach in musical educational institutions of all levels, perform management of creativity groups.

Teaching staff. The Department’s highly qualified teaching staff provides quality, multifold training. The teaching staff includes renowned specialists, musicians famous in Russia and all over the world, whose names are given to contemporary national performance schools – People’s Artists of the Russian Federation A.E. Frantseva, V.M. Trushin, Honoured Worker of Art of the Russian Federation L.P. Bulatov, Honoured Artists of the Russian Federation A.A. Koshvanets, M.A. Gotsdiner, V.G. Igolinsky, E.K. Adzhemova, PhD in art studies E.N. Safonova, accompanist of Bolshoi Theatre of Russia D.T. Hahamov.

Competitiveness of students. The Students’ Chamber Orchestra of Russian Gnessin’s Academy of Music is a winner of the international festival “European Musical Academies” (Warsaw, 2013). The chamber and symphonic orchestras have a season subscription for the Grand Hall of the Academy. These orchestras win competitions of solo instrumentalists.

Students participate in cultural life of the Academy and the state; they show their creative skills at prestigious national and international musical competitions and festivals; they actively participate in concert and performance activity.
